Much of that rise came during the third and second centuries (the period covered by this set), when it won against its rivals.

British Commandos is a British special unit which gave its name to the Polish word for commandos. The unit was formed on the orders of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1940, following the defeat and withdrawal of British Expeditionary Forces from France later that year. By definition, the unit was to operate in German-occupied Europe and conduct widely understood subversive, sabotage, and intelligence activities. Initially, British Army soldiers were recruited into the Commandos. It is estimated that in the period 1940-1945 about 25,000 people passed through the ranks of this unit, including not only the British, but also volunteers from countries such as Greece, France, Poland and the United States. In commando units, a lot of emphasis was placed on the initiative of an individual soldier, the ability to act independently and cope with extremely difficult combat conditions. The training was very difficult, challenging and throughout the course of WWII - it kept changing, over time, including but not limited to the call up of artillery or air support. One of the most famous actions carried out by the Commandos was the 1942 raid on Saint-Nazière, but the commando units also operated on a large scale during the Normandy operation in 1944.

BEAU GESTE ALGERIAN TOUAREG REVOLT , 1877-1912 BATTLE SET THE SET CONTAINS THE FRENCH FORT, THE TENTS, THE FOREIGN LEGION AND THE ARAB WARRIORS, THE MATERIAL IS NOT COLORED ITALERI 1:72 SCALE Description The French conquest of Algeria took place between 1830 and 1847. The French colonial policy of the following years was based on a progressive territorial expansion in North African and Sub-Saharan territories. At the end of the 19th century the Tuareg put up fierce resistance to French troops in the defense of their homelands in the central Sahara. The clashes between the troops of the French Foreign Legion, which had developed and garrisoned a series of forts in the most remote areas of Algerian territory, and the Tuareg Berber troops were numerous and violent. The long struggles ended with the signing of the treaties of 1905 and 1917 where the proud local populations could not compete with the most advanced and modern weapons of the French army. The historical events inspired numerous novels and films. The most famous is the 1939 film “Beau Geste” based on PC Wren's 1924 adventure novel of the same name.
