The 94-ton, 13,910 mm long locomotives with 1'D1' axle configuration were operated with three-phase current and had a continuous output of 2,200 kW. In the first years of operation, the body was painted black in the style of steam locomotives. The E.432 was a common sight on the Brenner line in the 1950s, hauling international express trains. The Italian State Railways used the E.432 class until 1976.
