SLC Maiale with crew Description PHOTO-ETCHED - 2 NEW FIGURES - COLOR INSTRUCTION SHEET MINE NOT INCLUDED Based on the experiences and successes of the Royal Italian Navy in the First World War, in 1935 Teseo Tesei and Elios Toschi designed and progressively perfected the Slow Running Torpedo (SLC) which will be better known as “Pig”. The torpedo, modified to allow it to be guided underwater by two operators equipped with respirators, had the purpose of carrying a high-potential explosive warhead under the keel of the moored ship. The torpedoes had a limited speed and were equipped with a guidance system. The batteries that powered the electric motor guaranteed a range of 12-15 miles. The most famous feat of the Royal Navy raiders took place on 19 December 1941. Transported by the submarine "Scirè", the SLCs sank the battleships HMS Valiant and HMS Queen Elisabeth of the British Royal Navy in the port of Alexandria, Egypt. the box contains the pig with photo-engravings and two Italeri 1:35 scale figures to assemble
